Auxiliary Air Spring Z6 for Fiat Ducato 230/244/250 (from 1994) – Greater Stability and Ride Comfort Under Load

The auxiliary air spring Z6 from SMV is a retro-fit air suspension system for the Fiat Ducato 230, 244 and 250, as well as the equivalent models Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Jumper. It supports the standard leaf spring suspension on the rear axle, providing a smoother, more stable ride – particularly when a motorhome or panel van is fully loaded. The Z6 kit operates as a dual-circuit system with a triple-convoluted bellows of approximately 6 inches in diameter per side of the vehicle.

Function and Application

The air bellows are mounted in addition to the existing leaf springs and provide noticeable relief to the original rear axle suspension system. As the two bellows can be inflated independently via two separate circuits, you can adjust the operating pressure on the right and left sides individually, compensating for uneven load distribution in seconds. This reduces rear-end sag, minimises body roll, and decreases sensitivity to crosswinds on the motorway.

The air bellows are inflated simply using a standard tyre inflator at any petrol station, or – optionally – via a retro-fit compressor. In everyday use, the system is virtually maintenance-free; it is sufficient to check the air pressure occasionally. How does the ride height adjustment work? Using the two pressure gauges in the cockpit, you set the appropriate pressure until the vehicle is in a level and balanced position.

The auxiliary air spring Z6 is manufactured by SMV Metall GmbH in Germany and is supplied with a TÜV certificate – also available with an installation service through our specialist dealer network.

Please note: The Z6 kit is suitable exclusively for vehicles with standard leaf spring suspension on the rear axle (not compatible with AL-KO chassis or four-wheel drive). Following installation, the system must be presented to the TÜV for inspection; the certificate required for registration is included.
